Fossil Dives
Nothing to see and everything to show for it. Fossilized shark teeth — and particularly those of the Carcharodon Megalodon (a “Super” Great White) — can be found throughout the region. Among the best hunting grounds for these and other fossils are the dark waters of the St. Marys River. South Georgia Dive Charters offers a special, two-tank Fossil Dive in the tannin-stained St. Marys. This is not an activity for the feint of heart. If you are lucky, you might have as much as four feet of visibility. It is more likely, however, that you literally won’t see your hand in front of your face.
Advanced certification is, obviously, a prerequisite. You will need a sturdy collecting bag, along with a good light. Even when visibility reaches its seasonal maximum of arm’s length, very little sunlight penetrates the dark water. We can provide any rental equipment you may need (just ask). We can just about promise you the least-scenic dive of your entire life — and one of the most rewarding. The fossils you will bring up won’t merely be thousands of years old. They will literally be millions of years in the making — trophies you will be proud to share with friends and family. Pricing and ReservationsFossil dives are $100 per person. Nondivers are welcome; however, the price is the same, as each nondiver counts against our licensed maximum of six passengers. For a schedule of upcoming charters, consult our calendar. You can reserve by calling the store or reserve on line.
